Course Description

New technologies have changed the possibilities of production of artworks and the role of the artist.

 

Photographic and digital media enables students to powerfully communicate ideas, identity, values, and culture through the creation of artworks that uses photographic and digital technologies as their medium. In this course, students will explore how new technologies have expanded the possibilities for creating artworks and transformed the role of the artist.

 

The study of photographic and digital media allows young people to develop an interest in and enjoyment of investigating the rapidly evolving ideas, practices, and technologies of this art form. Through critical reflection and acquiring understanding, knowledge and skills, students respond to the ideas, art and arts practice of others, through creatively developing their own ideas and photographic and digital artworks.

What will students learn about?

Artistic practice that uses photographic and digital media is vital in today's art world. Digital technologies have changed how photography and related arts are made, creating many new ways to practice. This course helps students explore how these artistic fields have changed from the 20th century to now. School projects will mimic real-world practices of artists, photographers, filmmakers, animators, and critics, offering students insights into potential careers.

 

Students will have the opportunity to explore the following areas:

 

- Adobe Creative Suite: Gaining proficiency in industry-standard software including:

- Photoshop for photo editing and manipulation.

- Illustrator for vector graphic design.

- InDesign for page layout and design.

- AfterEffects for motion graphics and visual effects.

- Premiere Pro for video editing and production.

- Animation using Adobe Animate.

- Digital Painting and Graphic Design using Procreate

- DSLR Camera: Mastering the technical and creative aspects of DSLR photography.

- Black and White Photography:  Exploring the aesthetics and techniques of black and white photography

-  Web Design and Development: Learning to desing and build websites using coding languages

Course Requirements

Students are required to produce a Photographic and Digital Media portfolio and keep a Photographic and Digital Media journal.

Students have the opportunity to explore the following photographic and digital forms:

Digital photography

Computer generated images

Web design

Installation works

video

animation

And use the following software:

Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Premiere Rush, Illustrator
