The purpose of Standard Mathematics is to provide an appropriate mathematical background for students who wish to enter occupations which require the use of basic mathematical and statistical techniques. The course is designed to support TAFE and other vocational courses. This course is NOT appropriate for those who wish to pursue the formal study of mathematics at tertiary level.
Mathematics Standard 11–12 focuses on enabling students to use mathematics to make informed decisions in their daily lives. Students develop understanding and competence through real-world applications of mathematics.
It is assumed that students who undertake this course have completed and achieved the outcomes from Year 10 5.1 or 5.2 Mathematics.
